Remembrance Day is really special and made even more so by all the events and activity right across our community.
I went to three services today, at Easthill Park, then Hove and followed by the AJAX service at Holland Road Synagogue which remembers the sacrifice of Jewish servicemen and women.
Outside of the formal services there’s plenty of time to meet veterans, many of whom have now become firm friends. Seeing them is such a joyous moment. There’s something about people who have sacrificed and survived some of the darker aspects of our history that unleashes a really wicked sense of humour later in life. So in addition to the sombre aspects of Remembrance Day, for me there’s also bucketloads of laughter as veterans of all ages chat, share stories, and often poke some fun at my expense!
I really hope you made it out to one of today’s events. And if you have served our country in one of our armed forces, then from the bottom of my heart – thank you.
Yours, Peter
